The fall is my most favorite time of the year. The crisp breeze in the morning and fresh air is reminiscent of my hometown in Illinois. I miss all the autumn colors here in the deep south but I still love this time of year.
I remember looking out at the fields of pumpkin as far as the eye could see. The corn being harvested and sounds of crows all around in the morning. Driving by the Libby plant and watching the mountains of pumpkins ready for processing was amazing.
Here in the south we have our cotton harvest and peanuts, corn too. Getting up in the morning to step outside and greet the day in the fall is pleasing. I stood in the shade not too long ago to stay cool, now I’m looking for a sunny spot to warm the chill in the air.
The flowers are going to seed now and time to collect them for next years planting. I see more birds at my feeders now, I’m sure they know it’s autumn too. The squirrels are busy as usual, not too much difference in their activity, they are always storing away food.
Our world is beautiful this time of year more than the rest of the seasons I think. All is preparing for winter.Even our own food preparations take a change. We now make those comfort foods like chili and baked dishes that were just to warm to eat in summer.
I hope all my friends take time to watch the world ready itself for the ending of summer. It’s such a wonderful time of year.
